THARIBA · PVD GOLD TECHNOLOGY

This machine
can turn gold
into vapour.

And return it to a surface
as an extraordinarily thin layer.

AN UNEXPECTED FILM

It started with something
that wasn't supposed
to happen.

Early incandescent lamps gradually darkened on the inside.

Material from the intensely heated filament could leave the filament, travel through the low-pressure environment of the bulb, and settle onto the glass as an extremely thin film.

At the time, this was a problem.

Over time, scientists and engineers learned how to control the movement and deposition of material inside vacuum environments.

From blackened glass
to engineered surfaces.

FROM ACCIDENT TO CONTROL

What once appeared as an unwanted film can now be controlled with extraordinary precision.

Modern physical vapour deposition uses specialised vacuum equipment to transform source material into vapour and deposit it onto a prepared surface as a thin engineered layer.

THE THARIBA QUESTION

We asked
a different question.

What happens
when the material
is gold?

A NEW FORMAT

Gold,
reimagined
as a surface.

Instead of thinking about gold only as bars, coins or conventional jewellery, thin-film deposition opens the possibility of using gold in completely different formats.

THARIBA uses this capability to create gold experiences designed around identity, giving and recognition.

THE PROCESS, SIMPLIFIED

How PVD works.

Inside a controlled vacuum environment, material is converted into vapour, transported through the chamber and deposited onto a prepared surface as an extremely thin layer.
